Basically, it's shredded pork that has been cooked in an Earth oven all day... when it's "pau" or done, the meat is completely cooked and moist, that is just falls off the bone... it is a delicious recipe! I will share with you how to make your very own with the use of a crock pot! =)

I've wanted to try this recipe out after I read the HMW's forum, and a couple of lovely ladies shared their Kalua Pork recipes. I also went online to compare the main ingredients, since it was my first time to attempt this recipe AND to use my crock pot, I wanted to make sure there was a similarity in the main ingredients after going through a few different recipes.
This is my version, which worked out pretty well for me! =)
Kalua Pork
Cooked in crock pot
Ingredients:
1 Package Pork Butt/Shoulder
1/8 Cup Soy Sauce (or less)
2 Teaspoons Ginger (minced or finely chopped)
2 Teaspoons Garlic (minced)
2 Teaspoons Smoked Liquid (you can find this in the sauce/condiments aisle at your local grocery store)
1/2 Cup Chicken Broth
3-4 Tablespoons Hawaiian Sea Salt (this salt is supposed to be less salty, so if you are using regular salt, I suggest about 1-2 tbsp for 1 pkg pork)
1/2 (of whole) Cabbage chopped
I was able to find all the ingredients at the NEX commissary.

I had to cut the pork to make it fit in my small crock pot.. it was a big butt.. (sorry I couldn't help it, lol.. my hubby and I couldn't stop cracking jokes.. )

I had NEVER heard of "Liquid Smoke" before this recipe! It sounded dangerous.. it apparently gives that hint of smoke flavor to your recipes..
This recipe is pretty simple once you've gotten all the ingredients together. If you have a crock pot, cut the pork into small enough pieces, save at least 1-2 inches space to make room for the other ings. Once you've put the pork in the crock pot, you will sprinkle the Hawaiian sea salt over the pork..

Afterwards, add the rest of the ingredients in and mix together.

Now cover and set crock pot on LOW, for 7-8 hours. Yup, HOURS! If you want to set it on HIGH, I think it'll take 4-5 hours. If you are going to bake this, I would say 6-7 hours at 350 degrees should do it.
If it is thoroughly cooked, it will be really moist, and should fall off the bone nicely. This makes it easier to shred the meat, which is what you will do for this recipe. Once the pork is fully cooked, take it out, and shred the meat. I used two forks, and it worked out perfectly.

You can either serve like this, or you can add cabbage to this dish, which is what I did. After the pork cooked after a good 7 hours, you shred the meat, and throw it back in the crock pot with some chopped cabbage and let it cook for another 20-30 mins.
